He can also create hormones that enhance the recipient's natural immune system, allowing him to boost a person's chances of survival from conditions that would otherwise mean certain death, such as disease and poisoning. However, the chance of survival is only slightly increased, the healing hormone cure is extremely painful, and the process takes many hours, or even a few days to complete, so only those with strong enough willpower can recover. Also, the process shortens a person's potential lifespan, by years if the condition was serious enough.
467 : Even If It Means Death! Luffy vs. the Nav...
This revelation greatly surprises the people at Sabaody Archipelago and prompts the Marines to kill Luffy. Garp does not mind since Luffy is already a well-known pirate. Luffy is able to defeat the giant with Gear Third, and shouts at Ace that he will save him "even if it means death" which prompts the Whitebeard Pirates to appreciate him due to their common goal, and Whitebeard tells Marco they "cannot let him die". Ace looks surprised at Luffy.
Portgas D. Rouge, the mother of Ace, who was from the South Blue on an isle known as Baterilla, performed a feat that even the Marines did not think was possible. She had kept Ace in her womb for twenty full months, far past the point of Ace's natural childbirth. When Ace was eventually born, Rouge died, having used up all her strength. This had taken place exactly one year and three months after the death of Ace's true father. Sengoku then announces to the Marines and the world that Ace's father is none other then Gold Roger himself. As the Marines react in shock to this, Garp remembers to himself when Roger asked him to take care of Ace, citing that his unborn child bears no sin just for being born.
Whitebeard says he knows the significance of his death and the consequences that the later will bring but he will not die until he has secured the future of his "sons" with his own hands. Jinbe and the other pirates then stand behind Whitebeard, claiming to defend his honor, while he calls them foolish. Sengoku berates Whitebeard and tells him to watch the future of his children as the guards ready their weapons to execute Ace. The pirates call out to Ace, while Whitebeard says that even he could not stop it.
All around the world, reporters report on the demise of Ace and Whitebeard as the audience of Sabaody looks on in shock. Among the patrons is Rayleigh who comments on Whitebeard's death. At Marineford this event garners different reactions from those present while Whitebeard's crew rush for their ships. Meanwhile, the Blackbeard Pirates cover Whitebeard with a black cloth which Blackbeard enters into much to the confusion of those watching. Seeing this all finally gets to Buggy who decides to abandon his newfound crew and run away, his followers however take it this a noble gesture of respect for Whitebeard's death and follow after him.
Zoro has survived numerous wounds that would easily kill normal people, showcasing his unbelievable endurance and durability, and the majority of his battles lead to him being drenched in blood and sustaining lethal injuries. Even while in an almost death-like state, he is still able to battle against very strong enemies and even fight with improved skill, tenacity and a clear head. All this demonstrates some of the greatest feats of endurance seen in the entire One Piece series, especially for one without Devil Fruit powers, proving he arguably has the highest endurance out of all the Straw Hat Pirates, who already seem inhuman themselves.
Smoker tends to hold grudges toward pirates who have escaped him, to the point of ignoring other notable pirates in his way. For example, he recognized Portgas D. Ace, a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, and was ready to confront him in battle, but after Monkey D. Luffy unexpectedly interrupted them, Smoker, as soon as he saw Luffy, barely acknowledged Ace's presence and started chasing the Straw Hat captain, who he considers his primary target ever since their scuffle at Loguetown. It is worth noting that Smoker's interest in Luffy goes deeper than just that, as Smoker saw parallels between Gold Roger and the young pirate, such as a defiant smile in the face of death as well as seemingly miraculous luck.[38]Smoker stacking stones as entertainment. As can be deduced from his name, Smoker is an avid smoker, almost never being seen without at least one cigar on his mouth. He also instinctively prefers to walk around with his chest bare, doing so even after having his mind transferred to the body of a woman. Smoker seems to have a hobby in rock balancing.[3] As such, he does not seem to like when people make too much noise around him, as he claims that it breaks his focus.[13]
In the Marine base, Captain Smoker was informed about the chaos caused by the pirates at the plaza.[1] He ordered the Marines to close all the roads that lead to the execution platform and to surround the port. Soon, Tashigi sergeant of the Marines, met up with Smoker and they went to the execution platform. The marines reported three wanted pirates on the execution platform, one being Alvida the Iron Mace, the other being Buggy the Clown and finally Straw Hat Luffy. Smoker stated he had never heard of Luffy but he thought that it could be a tough job.[3][54]Smoker shocked to see Luffy smiling when he was going to be executed. While Buggy was preparing for Luffy's execution, Smoker reached the plaza with his men. The Marines were not sure what to do, as the pirates were fighting each other. Smoker told the marines to let them fight, that way they will have the strength to capture Alvida and Buggy as soon as they had cut Luffy's head off. Buggy was about to cut Luffy's head off when Zoro and Sanji showed up to save Luffy. Smoker and Tashigi were surprised to hear that Pirate Hunter Zoro now belonged in the same crew of Straw Hat Luffy. Luffy then apologized to his crew saying that this was the end for him, smiled and accepted his fate. Shocked, Smoker recalled Gold Roger's execution 22 years ago. Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck Buggy when he was about to kill Luffy. Smoker asked a marine if he has ever seen somebody laugh at the execution platform knowing they will die. The marine replies with saying that even the wicked kind of pirate would cower in the face of death. Smoker then said that that was exactly what Luffy, just like the pirate king did on his execution 22 years ago.[51]
